#13009- Abandoned Dogs in Denville *Update-Case Closed*
UPDATE
The Denville Police requested and received the assistance of
the Morris County Crime Stoppers for two abandoned dogs found at the Happy Hound
Dog Park on Zeek Road. Crime Stoppers published a flier with a photo
of the dogs. The flyer was circulated throughout Morris County
seeking information on the owner of the dogs and information regarding their
abandonment.
The following day, Thursday September 26, Ruth Vallejo of
Rockaway appeared at the Denville Police Department claiming to be the owner of
the two abandoned dogs. Ms. Vallejo indicated that her dogs were lost on Sunday
September 22 after chasing Deer into the woods behind the park.
Ms. Vallejo’s version of what had occurred was inconsistent
with the results of the investigation.
As a result Ms. Vallejo was charged with the following;
Two counts of NJSA 4:22-20.b Abandon a domestic animal at
the dog park in Denville.
Two counts of NJSA 4:22-17a. (3) Inflict unnecessary cruelty
on a dog by leaving the animal without food water or shelter.
Local charges 5-8.1 Dogs running at large and no
registration on the collars.
The dogs remain at Denville Animal Shelter and are now in
good health.
On Monday (9/23/13), two small dogs were
discovered to have been abandoned at the Denville Township
Dog Park. One dog is brown and the other is mostly
black with some brown/tan. Anyone with
information on the owner of these two dogs should contact the Denville Township
Police Department at (973)627-4900.
