On Monday Aug. 14, 2006 an officer was requested to respond to Cedar Crest Dr. in Pompton Plains NJ for a report of stolen copper wire. There is some new construction work being done at that location and the construction company reported that upon arriving on Monday morning there were eight (8) rolls of copper wire stolen from the site. The estimated cost of all the wire taken is about $100,000.00. The wire was on very large spools and was very heavy to move so the unknown actors who took it must have had equipment to do so. The construction company is unsure of who would have taken the wire but did report that copper wire has gone up significantly in price recently. All vehicles entering the area are required to go through a securitity gate and the only authorized vehicles to be on site on Sunday were Cedar Crest Landscapers.
